  • Check tyre tread depth: Ensure at least 3mm for optimal grip on icy roads.
  • Winter tyres: Consider installing winter or all-season tyres designed for cold conditions.
  • Tyre pressure: Cold weather can reduce pressure, so inflate to manufacturer-recommended levels.
  • Test the battery: Cold temperatures can reduce battery efficiency. Replace if older than 3-5 years.
  • Clean terminals: Ensure the battery terminals are clean and free from corrosion.
  • Charge level: Ensure it’s fully charged, especially for short trips where it might not recharge fully.
  • Check levels: Ensure coolant is topped up.
  • Correct mix: Verify the antifreeze-to-water ratio (typically 50:50) to prevent freezing.
  • Replace wiper blades: Ensure they’re not streaking or skipping.
  • Winter washer fluid: Use a fluid rated for low temperatures to avoid freezing.
  • Clean lenses: Remove grime to improve visibility.
  • Test the heater: Ensure the cabin heating works efficiently.
  • Defrosters: Check that front and rear defrosting systems are operational.
  • Winter-grade oil: If necessary, switch to thinner oil as recommended for cold climates.
  • Inspect pads and rotors: Ensure they’re in good condition for optimal stopping power
  • Keep the tank at least half full: Prevents fuel line freezing and ensures you won’t run out if delayed.
  • Check for leaks: Ensure the exhaust is free of obstructions to avoid carbon monoxide buildup.
